Credit Union Membership

When you join 1st University Credit Union, you become more than a member; you are a Partner!

We are a not-for-profit cooperative that exists to serve our members and their families. As a member, you actually own a "share" in the credit union and can vote for the volunteer Board of Directors that oversees our operations.

1st University Credit Union is a full service financial institution, offering numerous savings plans and a variety of loan products, usually with lower loan rates and fees, higher savings rates, and personalized, caring and professional service.


Who Can Join 1st University Credit Union?

Becoming a member means you and your family can enjoy all the benefits 1st University Credit Union has to offer. Membership is open to:

  • Anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in McLennan County, Erath County, or Bosque County

  • Baylor University students, employees, alumni, and Baylor Alumni by Choice

  • Employees of service providers to Baylor

  • Individuals who work or reside in Baylor-owned properties

  • Family members of current 1st UCU members

How to Join

You can join 1st University Credit Union by opening a savings account with a minimum deposit of $5.00. A minimum balance of $5.00 must be maintained while the account is open.

To open an account, we are required to verify your identity. This process includes collecting your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number (if one has been issued), and other necessary details. You will also need to provide the following:

  • A valid, unexpired photo ID, such as a driver’s license, passport, or another acceptable form of identification¹.

  • Proof of residence, which may include a utility bill, housing assignment letter, lease agreement, or another official document.

  • For international students, a valid, unexpired Visa and a passport from your country of origin that includes a photo and an address.

Once your account is set up, you’ll have full access to all the benefits and services the credit union offers.

 
1: Other acceptable forms of ID include a valid, unexpired U.S. state-issued photo ID card, an unexpired federal photo ID (e.g., U.S. military ID), an alien registration card, and a Mexican Consular ID Card (also known as a Matricula Card).
Unacceptable forms of ID include, but are not limited to, hunting licenses, marriage licenses, civic organization cards (e.g., Rotary Club), library cards, store membership cards (e.g., Kroger, Randall’s, Albertsons, Sam’s Club, and Costco), blood donation cards, and country club membership cards.

Once A Member...Always a Member

At a credit union, once you have opened your account and become a member you are always a member, even when you graduate, change jobs, change schools, move away, or retire.


Family Membership

Once you become a member of the credit union, members of your family are also eligible for membership. This includes spouse, parents, grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
